East Meets South Report
12/09/04

Last week, we attended East Meets South in Anniston, AL. It's the second anime convention in Alabama and this was their first year. For a first-year con, East Meets South rocked! They had everything an anime fan could hope for plus stuff that anyone would like. They even gave away a trip for 2 to Japan as a door prize!

Attendance - 7.8
There were around 400 people at the con. Considering this was their first year, that was a very large number.

Anime Room - 9.5
One of the best anime rooms ever. The only problem was that it took a while to get the schedules posted and then stick to them. But the anime was great - tons of new stuff fresh out of Tokyo like Aishiteruze Baby and DearS.

Role Playing - 9.0
OK, this is the section usually reserved for D&D. But since there wasn't any at this con, we'll use this part for Cosplay! There was a wide array of cosplayers at East Meets South. Everyone looked like they had put a lot of effort into their costumes and they were very entertaining.

LARP - N/A
There were no LARPS, but some of the cosplayers got into it.

ConSuite - 4.0
There was no consuite, but snacks were available for sale.

Video Game Room - 8.5
There were several different video games available to play in the Game Room.

Dance - 7.4
The dance was so loud you could hear it on the third floor of the building - pretty cool!

Guests - 4.3
There weren't really any guests per say, but there were a few nice artists in the Artist Alley.

Rocky Horror - 9.0
An anime convention with Rocky Horror - YES! It was great, East Meets South had a live action room which played Shaolin Soccer, Ju On, Ringu and...Rocky Horror!

Costumes - 9.1
Several people were in costume and they were all pretty darn good.

Overall Score - 7.6

Awesome score for a first-year con. With more guests and a consuite, it'd be damn near perfect! Attendance is highly recommended.
