Shaun of the Grudge

Time for a couple of movie reviews. In specific: Shaun of the Dead and The Grudge.

Shaun of the Dead
For most people, being undead wouldn't be that much different from being alive. That is one of the greatest universal truths that this film made me realize. Think about it, every morning people get up and shuffle off to work in their dead end jobs, come home, perhaps waste a few hours in front of the TV and then fall asleep only to do it all over again. Well, although Shaun of the Dead shows all this, it also has a high entertainment value. It's great to watch how two completely oblivious guys react in different zombified situations. Their interaction with the zombies is superb. Shaun is a very funny movie. Of course, there are some serious moments in the film, but all is forgiven by the good ending which, although slightly predictible, is still very original to zombie films. One good thing about being alive that is better than being dead is that the food is much better. Oh yeah, and zombies don't really care about sex. So I suppose being undead is more like being married.

The Grudge
The Grudge was a good movie. If you enjoyed The Ring, then you will definitely like this film. Although very similar, it was actually a little creepier than The Ring. The reason behind the smiliarities of these films is that they were both originally Japanese horror flicks. The Grudge is based on Ju-On. It seems that in today's horror movie market, "scary" is defined by sudden movement and loud noises. Well, The Grudge had plenty of that as well as a decent story and a little bit of gore. The only problem with The Grudge is that focus seems to shift from character to character and sometimes the storyline jumps around. Some audience members left the film disappointed at the ending, but remember - it's Japanese. And if you've ever watched an entire series of a Japanese anime, you'll understand. Oh, and watch out for the catboy. That's one creepy little bitch.
