Suggestion
10/30/03

Tomorrow is Halloween and many people still have no idea what they want to dress up as. It's way too late to go to Wal-Mart or K-Mart or any of the "party" stores and still find anything decent to wear. So, we have a suggestion. Why not go as a concerned U.S. citizen? Just dust off the costume that you bought two years ago and see if it still fits.

After September 11, 2001, there was a boom in patriotism in the United States. But look around you today. Faded and tossed aside are the flags that were bought and gone is the fleeting sense of brotherhood that we all felt. For just a little while, we actually were the United States, not just billions of different people with billions of different backgrounds. We were all proud of the fact that we had something in common - our heritage as Americans. We felt like we were all in this thing together. But all of that is gone.

Why have we once more become so independent? Look at Canadians. I hate them. You hate them. We all hate them. But, whenever you see on in the U.S., somewhere you will see a Canadian flag (yeah that gay maple leaf). Even though they're from one of the shittiest second-rate countries in the world, they proudly display their flag. They take pride in their country. Now, if they can take pride in that wasteland of homosexuality, then why can't we take pride in our country - the best in the frickin' world?!?

Honestly, look at all the stuff we have. To most people, life is all about stuff anyway, right? Besides stuff, we have ideas - the idea that we can be different if we want to be. We can express our opinions. We actually have a say in what our government does (albeit a small one). People in most countries would give their right arm for that - or their left tit!

I know what you're thinking and no, we're not some huge patriotic bunch of bleeding hearts. We're just tired of a few things. One of them is the hypocrites who sporadically became patriotic a few years ago because they thought it was in style - the thing to do. Another thing we're tired of is how people from all these really crappy countries take so much pride in where they're from when we're the ones who actually make a difference in the world. We send people off to die for this country, yet no one really seems to care. Maybe the draft should be brought back. Maybe Hulk Hogan needs to start a door-to-door campaign. Maybe we should change the way the $20 bill looks.
