The Fajita Factor
09/20/04

God spoke to the Mexicans.

When He visited Mexico, God saw that the people were good. They lived the simple life of tortillas and tequila, margaritas and mariachi. He smiled upon them and offered a great and valuable gift. God extended his hand and a great cloud of lightning came forth as the earth began to tremble. Once the smoke cleared, the only thing left was a loud sizzling coming from the area in which He had stood. This harmony was produced by a divine dish of steak, onions and peppers. The Mexicans immediately fell to the ground and began to worship it. But it wasn't long before they realized what they were meant to do with this gift, so they commenced to have a feast celebrating this most sacred of occasions. It was as if the Lord Himself had shat upon the plate and left in his wake a steamy miracle. As they dined upon the blessed banquet left to them, they began to understand that this was a gift to be shared with the entire world. The only word that the Mexicans could find to embrace this wonderful act of God? "Fajita".

Harken back to the first time you were in a Mexican restaurant and heard a plate of fajitas go by. You were mesmerized. You didn't know what they were. And if you did know what they were, you had only dreamed of them until this day. Recently, Taco Bell had a series of commercials depicting customers at a Mexican restaurant. As the waiter carried out an order of fajitas, the patrons stared in wonder, eyes filled with lust, and uttered the words "ooh, fajitas!"

Ooh, fajitas, indeed. The sizzling sound produced as hot, tender steak jumps around on a searing hot plate first garners their attention. Then they see the steam rising above the dish. Finally, they smell the glorious aroma wafting down to their unworthy noses from the special sauce, carmelized onions and mouth wattering peppers. They know in that instant what life is all about. They know...they should've ordered the fajitas.

So, why didn't they order fajitas? What makes them so taboo and special that they can only be obtained by a select, envied few? It's called the "Fajita Factor". The price of fajitas usually range anywhere from two to four dollars higher than the average plate at a Mexican restaurant. This $2-4 is the Fajita Factor, a small sum of money which when applied properly can greatly increase the happiness of one's lifestyle.

When people see the price associated with fajitas, they instantly assume that they are intangible and should be saved only for rich folk. They fail to realize how much better their simple lives would be if they were to just pony up the dough. Think of the feeling it would give you to know that as your meal is being delivered to your table, other customers look on in aphrodisia. Those are your fajitas. People are looking at your food. They want to be you. You are their idol. You, my friend, are their God.

The Fajita Factor can be applied to almost every facet of life. Think about the price of a pack of cigarettes or a pack of trading cards. $2-4. Coincidence? No. The Lord has already figured the Fajita Factor into your life. The price difference in a matinee and an evening movie? $2-4. And, to steal from a trendy credit card commercial: the experience of fajitas? Priceless. So, the next time you see something that costs $2-4 that you wish you had, scrape together the pennies necessary and go for it. The Fajita Factor will be your road to success.
