DragonCon '04 Scorecard 09/24/04 |
Labor Day 2004. The skies parted over the quaint little town of Atlanta, GA and 20,000 fans converged in the downtown area. This is it, the Mardi Gras for geeks - Dragon*Con!
Best things about the con:
1. Far less people than last year
2. D&D
3. Independent films
4. Wrestling
5. Danger Woman
Worst things about the con:
1. The dreaded ConFluenza
2. Hangovers
3. The body's requirement for sleep
4. Rocky Horror (see below)
5. The Consuite
Attendance - 9.8
Always a large crowd, but this year it seemed very managable.
Anime Room - 7.0
It was an OK anime room, not the greatest.
D&D - 9.0
Dragon*Con always has good D&D available.
LARP - N/A
We did not participate in any of the LARPing events.
ConSuite - 5.2
The larger the con, the more suck the consuite.
Video Game Room - N/A
We did not participate in any of the video gaming, but they did have an Unreal Tournament battle!
Dance - 8.2
A plethora of different dances for different tastes.
Guests - 6.8
Again, DragonCon goes for quantity over quality. What a pity.
Rocky Horror - 5.4
Rocky Horror was scheduled to begin at 1:00. So, we show up around 1:30 because it traditionally starts late. Well, there was some douche playing the guitar with no signs of stopping. Even if he had've quit, they still would've had to tear down his stuff and put up the RHPS stuff. We left.
Costumes - 8.9
Great costumes this year.
Overall Score - 7.5
Everything was in order except for Rocky Horror and the ConSuite. The guests could've also been better. Hey DragonCon, 1996 is calling. They want Joseph Michael Linsner and Dawn back.
